With the “81 Students from81 Cities” project, İşbank

implemented one of the most comprehensive and long-

term education projects in Turkey.

İşbank Chess Festival for Children Under 8

The “İşbank Chess Festival for Children

under 8” has been held following the end

of the academic year since 2006 to provide

children with a fun and a family-friendly

chess playing environment.

Held only in Istanbul until this year, the

Chess Festival for Children Under 8 was also

organized in Ankara and İzmir in 2014. 9

th

annual festival was held this year in which a

total of 777 children participated.

Turkey Junior Chess Championship

The 2014 Turkey Junior Chess

Championship was held in Kemer/Antalya.

A total of 1,459 players in 7-12 age group

attended the championship from 63 cities

in Turkey and from Turkish Republic of

Northern Cyprus (T.R.N.C.).

Turkish Youth Chess Championship-U12

The U12 Championship was held in Konya

in 2014. A total of 299 players ages 13-

18- from 34 cities in Turkey and T.R.N.C.

participated in the championship. 74 players

were selected for the National Team pool.

Türkiye İş Bankası Chess League

Chess tournaments continued to

be organized by the Bank under the

designation “Türkiye İş Bankası Chess

League.” The “İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi

(İstanbul Technical University) Socar - KNI”

won the League’s 2014-2014 season

championship.

The Türkiye İş Bankası Chess League is the

strongest league in its field in Turkey; it is

also considered to be one of the strongest

leagues in Europe.

Akıl Oyunu Documentary

In order to promote chess in different layers

of life, another project supported by İşbank

in 2014 was the “Akıl Oyunu (Mind Game)”

documentary. The documentary film, which

phrased the importance of chess sport in

education and the Bank’s main sponsorship

activities, was broadcast on İZ TV.

“81 Students from81 Cities”

With the mission of “equal opportunities in

education,” Darüşşafaka Society provides

education to talented students who have

lost one or both parents and are in financial

need. Darüşşafaka offers high quality

education and boarding in contemporary

conditions through full scholarship from

student’s fifth year through to the end of

high school.

The Bank’s “81 Students from 81 Cities”

project, initiated with the collaboration

of Darüşşafaka Society in the 2008-

2009 academic year, is one of the most

comprehensive and long-term education

projects in the country. Under the project,

each year İşbank covers all the educational

expenses from the fifth grade through the

end of high school for 81 children from 81

cities who successfully pass the entrance

exam.

The Bank intends to continue supporting

these students throughout their university

education. The students, who were

admitted to Darüşşafaka in the first year of

the project, are expected to graduate from

university in the 14

th

year of the project.

By that time, the number of students

supported by the İşbank is expected to be

more than 1,000.

In this school year, in addition to 81

students accepted to the project every

year, 5 students who lost their fathers in

the Soma mining disaster and who were

accepted to Darüşşafaka were included in

the project scope.

İşbank also contributes to students’ social

progress beyond financial support through

several other activities.
