On 7 March 2012,
İşbank signed the United
Nations Global Compact.
An integrated approach in managing
economic and social activities
In recent times, companies have the
responsibility to reassess their approach
towards the individuals, the society and
the environment as we are undergoing
a rapid transformation process in which
lifestyles and business models change on
a daily basis. İşbank manages its economic
and social activities in an integrated
manner, without diverting from its founding
philosophy and its sustainability-geared
track.
Sustainable and profitable growth
İşbank designs its business models around
the strategy of being the bank closest to
its customers and generating sustainable
profitable growth. In this context, the Bank
aims to develop products and services that
create added value, promote continuous
improvement in business efficiency, and
achieve healthy and stable growth with a
customer-focused approach to banking. In
order to support its long-term sustainability
performance with profitability, İşbank
focuses on decreasing service costs and on
effectively managing risk, expenditures and
capital.

With its long-lasting knowledge, deep
experience and sources that it transfers to
the economy, İşbank continues to be one of
the most important supporters contributing
to the development of the Turkish economy
since the first years of the Republic when
capital accumulation was insufficient.
A sustainability approach that adapts
environmental awareness to business
processes
In parallel to the value İşbank attributes
to future generations, the Bank regularly
reassesses the responsibility it has towards
the environment. The Bank also constantly
evaluates its range of impact, thereby
undertakes its activities with a broad sense
of environmental awareness.
İşbank has integrated a broad range of
sustainability issues into its business
activities such as the protection of
natural resources, the development of
green products and services, increasing
awareness of stakeholders and raising
environmental awareness into its lending
processes.
Social responsibility projects based
on community development
İşbank, the pioneer in financial
development in Turkey, also operates as a
responsible corporate citizen, keenly aware
of the importance of making a high-level
contribution to society as a whole. By
effectively diversifying its projects in the
areas of education, environment, culture
and arts to a broad public, the Bank plays an
important transformative role in community
development.

İşbank views creating new employment
for the Turkish economy as one of its
main responsibilities. With a total of
25,157 employees as of end-2015, the
Bank is one of the biggest contributors
to employment in Turkey. The Bank pays
close attention to comply with regulations
regarding occupational health and safety
as well as the protection of employee
rights. Moreover, the Bank provides its
personnel with a fair, dignified, secure
work environment and gives them ample
opportunities to improve themselves.

on enabling the professional development
of its employees, on providing equal

diversity. Against this backdrop, the Bank

Sustainability Index
İşbank has instituted the Sustainability
Management System, which is a set of
principles that will give direction to efforts
allowing the Bank to responsibly manage
its activities and increase the added
value it creates for its shareholders, the
society and the environment. Rendered its
sustainability activities traceable and more
improvable, the Bank was included in the
Sustainability Index of the Borsa İstanbul
Stock Exchange (BIST).
Continued development under the
United Nations Global Compact
Since İşbank became a party to the United
National Global Compact on 7 March 2012,
the Bank has made continual progress
in the integration of the agreement’s
10 global principles into its business
processes. Furthermore, the Bank
regularly shares information with its
stakeholders on different dimensions of
its sustainability performance through the
yearly sustainability reports it prepares
applying the Global Reporting Initiative
(GRI) standard.
By implementing the Sustainability Management System
in 2015, İşbank took an important step forward in rendering
its sustainability activities under a more traceable and
improvable structure.
