EDUCATION
Chess
Main sponsorship of Turkish Chess
Federation
With the aim of making chess a popular,
widely played and easily accessible sport
practiced across the country, İşbank
involved in a comprehensive collaboration
with the Turkish Chess Federation in
December 2005 and became the sponsor of
this sport across Turkey.
With this sponsorship, the Bank aims to:
popularize chess, especially among children;
turn chess into an easily accessible sport;
resolve the shortcomings experienced in
chess education; help chess to become a
popular and demanded sport across the
country; and increase the success achieved
in the international arena by reaching
talented children.

Main sponsor of the Northern Cyprus
Chess Federation
In parallel to the sponsorship of the Turkish
Chess Federation, İşbank also became
sponsor of the Northern Cyprus Chess
Federation (NCCF) in 2013. Following
İşbank’s sponsorships, chess started to be
taught in primary schools in the Turkish
Republic of Northern Cyprus once per week.
Opening İşbank chess classes in
elementary and secondary schools
Chess classes have been opened in
elementary and secondary schools for the
purposes to promote chess as an easily
accessible sport, to encourage children
to play chess, to draw the attention of
teachers and parents to this sport and
to help to eliminate lack of resources at
schools with limited financial means.
By opening 3,000 chess classes in 2015,
the total number of chess classes opened in
schools has risen to 14,841.
Chess license cards dispensed by
İşbank branches
Since 2007, licenses granted by the Turkish
Chess Federation to registered players
have been issued in the form of Bankamatik
(ATM) cards, in order to foster a strong and
long-lasting relationship with the players
and their families under the support given
to the sport. License cards come in three
varieties:

Playchess.com
In 2008, İşbank started to collaborate with
Playchess.com, the world’s largest online
chess platform having 250,000 registered
users. With this collaboration, the content
of the website was translated into Turkish
and access to the website was provided

More than 7,000 licensed chess players can
login to playchess.com from Turkey and can
play online chess free-of charge.
İşbank Chess Festival for Children
Under 8
The “İşbank Chess Festival for Children
under 8” has been held following the end
of the academic year since 2006 to provide
children with a fun and a family-friendly
chess playing environment.
Due to the high interest in the festival, it
has also been held in Ankara and İzmir since
2014. For the first time in 2015, the festival
was also organized in the Turkish Republic
of Northern Cyprus. Some 726 young
athletes participated in the festival.
Turkey Junior Chess Championship
The 2015 Turkey Junior Chess
Championship was held in Manavgat/
Antalya. A total of 1,570 players in 7-12 age
group attended the championship from 65
cities in Turkey and from Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus.
İşbank contributes to Turkey’s social development
with its own social responsibility projects or those it
supports around the country.
