Corporate Social Responsibility Activities
The “One Million Books, One Million Children”
campaign was carried out for the 8
th
time at the
end of the 2014-2015 academic year. Thanks to
this initiative, a total of 10million books have been
distributed to primary school children.
Turkish Youth Chess
Championship-U12
The U12 Championship was held in Konya
in 2015. A total of 296 players ages 13-
18- from 37 cities in Turkey and T.R.N.C.
participated in the championship.
Türkiye İş Bankası Chess League
Chess tournaments continued to
be organized by the Bank under the
designation “Türkiye İş Bankası Chess
League”. “Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü”
won the League’s 2014-2015 season
championship.
Türkiye İş Bankası Chess League is the
strongest league in its field in Turkey; it is
also considered to be one of the strongest
leagues in Europe.
81 Students from81 Cities
With the mission of “equal opportunities in
education,” Darüşşafaka Society provides
education to talented students who have
lost one or both parents and are in financial
need. Darüşşafaka offers high quality
education and boarding in contemporary
conditions through full scholarship from
student’s fifth year through to the end of
high school.
The Bank’s “81 Students from 81 Cities”
project, initiated with the collaboration
of Darüşşafaka Society in the 2008-
2009 academic year, is one of the most
comprehensive and long-term education
projects in the country. Under the project,
each year İşbank covers all the educational
expenses from the fifth grade through the
end of high school for 81 children from 81
cities who successfully pass the entrance
exam.
İşbank also contributes to students’ social
progress beyond financial support through
several other activities.
One Million Books, One Million
Children
At the end of the 2007-2008 academic
year, İşbank launched the “One Million
Books, One Million Children” campaign, one
of the biggest book related campaigns ever
undertaken in Turkey.
With this campaign, the Bank aims to:

support the development of children’s
cognitive and intellectual skills,

support the formation of a reading and
questioning generation,
»
»
help develop warm relations between the
Bank and children at an early age.
With the 8
th
campaign carried out at the end
of the 2014-2015 academic year, a total of
10 million books were distributed to primary
and secondary school students.
Under this campaign, students who
brought their school report cards to İşbank
branches – in Turkey, TRNC, Georgia, Iraq,
the UK, Kosovo, and to İşbank Germany or
İşbank Russia – were given books as gifts.
As in the previous years, in this year, a
certain number of books were printed in
the Braille alphabet and delivered to the
libraries of schools providing education to
visually disabled children. In addition, books
were sent to students of Regional Boarding
Secondary Schools and to children boarding
in the housing of the General Directorate of
Children’s Services.
In addition, students who could not visit
İşbank branches due to enrollment in
special facilities or under treatment in
hospitals were directly visited by İşbank.
Book donations to schools and
libraries
As an extension of the Bank’s social
responsibility initiatives seeking to
contribute to education, İşbank continues
sending the books published by İş Bankası
Kültür Yayınları publishing house to schools
and public libraries all over the country. In
2015, approximately 12,000 books were
delivered to 1,289 schools and libraries.
Golden Youth Award
Since 1971, İşbank has presented awards
to a number of students who excel on the
university admission exams every year
under the “Golden Youth” award program.
The number of the recipients of the award
is determined every year on the basis of the
Bank’s age. More than 3,000 students have
received awards to date.
ENVIRONMENT
81 Forests in 81 Cities
The “81 Forests in 81 Cities” project was
initiated in 2008 with the collaboration of
the TEMA Foundation and the Ministry of
Forestry and Water Affairs.
The project aims to protect the
environment and to increase environmental
awareness of the society, particularly
of children. Within the project, 2,205
thousand saplings were planted over a total
area of 1,500 hectares in all cities in Turkey
and 35,200 saplings were planted to 22
hectares in the T.R.N.C. Work on the project,
which covers the care of the saplings for
a five-year period following the planting,
continued in 2015.
As of year-end 2015, the rate of successful
plantings was 82%.
